Budget Friendly Summer Activities for Kids

We’ve Got You Covered with 5 Budget Friendly Summer Activities for Kids

Summer is just around the corner, and children are pouring out of the school yard and into their backyard. With the cost of electricity, rent, and gas prices rising, parents are looking for affordable activities to entertain their kids. At Q Link Wireless, we strive to help low-income households save money. We do this by offering FREE UNLIMITED Data, Talk, & Text on one of the Nation’s fastest networks. In this post, we’re shifting gears. We’ve rounded up the top budget friendly summer activities for kids and parents to enjoy.

Go to the Beach, River, or Lake

If you live in a state where the beach is just a few hours away, pack up your swimsuits, beach towels, and sunscreen and soak up some sunshine while playing in the sand. If you don’t live near the beach, find the nearest river or lake. You may not get to ride the waves on a boogie board, but you can grab a tube and go floating on the river.

Have a Picnic at the Park

Admission to most local parks is cheap, but you’ll find some are free. So, to make this activity more budget-friendly, go picnicking at a free park. Just don’t forget to pack your picnic essentials:

  • Sunscreen
  • Bug repellant
  • Picnic blanket
  • Water bottles
  • Condiment packs
  • First aid kit
  • Kitchen towels vs. paper towels (you can reuse kitchen towels)

And of course, don’t forget your food, like snacks, hotdogs, burgers, sandwiches, etc. If you don’t already have these items on deck, you can purchase them at a discount store.

Backyard Camping

Our list of budget friendly summer activities for kids wouldn’t be complete if we excluded backyard camping. It’s free if you already have the necessary items to make an amazing experience. Make sure to check off the following from your list:

  • A tent (large enough for the whole family)
  • Chairs (for sitting around the grill)
  • Lighting (outdoor lanterns, torch lights, flashlights, etc.)
  • Barbeque or firepit
  • Proper kitchen utensils for barbequing
  • Sunblock and bug repellant

If you have these items somewhere in your house, this summer activity with your kids is completely free. If you’re a Q Link Wireless customer, you have access to Data, Talk, & Text to stay connected to friends and family, even if you live in the middle of nowhere. Nobody wants to pay unnecessarily for cell phone service and data. You shouldn’t, either.

Sign up for an Art Class

Taking an art class is not the most affordable item on our list, but if you’ve been saving on your cell phone bill with Q Link Wireless, you have opportunities to splurge. After all, if you participate in the Lifeline Program, you get FREE Data, Talk, & (UNLIMITED) Text every month. As an ACP customer, you enjoy monthly FREE UNLIMITED Data, Talk, & Text. These savings provide a perfect opportunity to enjoy pricier activities with your kids. Art classes are especially great for kids who want to release their creative side in a safe, fun environment.

Search coupon sites, and you may be able to find a class that costs at least $20 – you may be hard pressed to find a class that costs less.

Plant a Seasonal Kitchen Garden

Planting a kitchen garden takes a lot of time and effort. Nonetheless, it can be an opportunity to teach your children valuable life lessons, such as patience. But that’s not the only lesson they can learn.

  • When children see the hard work of planting food, they are less likely to waste what’s on their plate.
  • If the plant doesn’t grow, children can learn from their mistakes and try again.
  • Some things in life are out of their control. No matter how accurately they plant herbs, fruits, and vegetables, they may not always be successful.
  • If they grow an ugly fruit or vegetable, it’s just as valuable as the “perfect” produce found in grocery stores.

Budget Friendly Summer Activities Can Make Memorable Moments

Low-income households or families on a budget may not be able to take their kids to Disney World, or theme parks, but there are several budget friendly summer activities to enjoy. Make sure you have a camera nearby to create many priceless memories.
