How to Track Your COVID-19 Relief Check

How to Track Your COVID-19 Financial Relief Check

During this unprecedented global crisis, many Americans have either been laid off, furloughed, or let go of their jobs, and in effect, are struggling to pay their bills and stay afloat.

As a means to provide financial relief to its citizens, the United States government has passed a $2 trillion stimulus package. This stimulus package, called the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES), will deliver various forms of help. One of the forms of help will be a single payment to citizens, families, and many businesses.

The payments will be up to $1,200 for individuals, or $2,400 for married/joint taxpayers, and $500 for each child. The amounts of payments will be based on your adjusted gross income (AGI) of your most recent 1040 tax form filings. If you have not yet filed for 2019, it will be based on your 2018 tax filing. A Social Security number is needed in order to receive a stimulus check. You may be wondering; when will I get my stimulus check?

If your AGI has significantly changed since 2018, you should file your 2019 tax return as soon as possible, and if you are getting a tax refund, you should receive it through direct deposit. That is the basic answer for “when will I get my stimulus check”.

Doing so will let the IRS have your must up-to-date AGI and direct deposit information, which helps determine your stimulus check amount, and lets the government know where to easily send your money. This article will explain how much your check will be, whether you will be eligible for it, and answer “when will I get my stimulus check?”.

How much will my stimulus check be?

When Will I Get My Stimulus Check

The stimulus checks will vary depending on your latest tax filing’s AGI. Basically, if your most recent AGI was up to $75,000, or $150,000 married filed jointly, then you are eligible for the full amount of the $1,200 stimulus check.

If you are unsure what your AGI is, take a look at your most recent 1040 tax form. On line 8b of your 2019 Form 1040 is where you’ll find your AGI.

If your AGI was more than $75,000, you could still receive some money. The amount, however, decreases by $5 for every $100 in AGI above $75,000. The income cap, however, is at $99,000 for single taxpayers, $136,500 for Head of Household taxpayers, and $198,000 for joint filing taxpayers with no children.

If you were claimed as a depended on a 2019 tax filing, then you are not eligible to receive a stimulus check in any amount.

Every taxpayer will receive $500 for each child they claimed for the most recent tax filing. If you are unsure how much your stimulus check will be, check out this stimulus check calculator here.

How do I receive my stimulus check payment?

The number one thing you need to do is file your 2019 tax return, if you haven’t done so already. This will give the government your most current AGI and direct deposit information.

Did you get a tax return in either 2018 or 2019, and you chose to receive that refund through direct deposit? If yes, then the government will use that bank information to direct deposit your stimulus check. You will not have to do anything to receive your payment.

If you are not required to file taxes, and you receive Social Security, then you do not need to do anything to receive your stimulus check. The stimulus payment will be sent based on the information on your 2019 Form SSA-1099 Social Security Benefit Statement, or your RRB-1099 Social Security Equivalent Benefit Statement.

If you are not required to file taxes, and you do not receive Social Security, use this stimulus registration to give the IRS your address and direct deposit information.

If you did file taxes in 2018 and 2019, and you did not provide your direct deposit information, then you can still get your stimulus check. Simply use the stimulus registration to provide the IRS your current address and direct deposit information.
