If You Love Taking Pictures, Look for These Camera Phone Features

Cameras are among the most used features on a smart phone. As a result, every smart phones comes equipped with a camera to capture our most memorable moments. If you’re an amateur photographer, then you probably know that not every camera phone is the same. There are some camera attributes that stand out from the pack, allowing the user to take photos nearly on par with a DSLR. What are the best camera phone features you should you pay attention to? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s review what to look for prior to making a purchase, especially if you’re on a budget.

    Aperture

Professionals and amateurs aren’t the only ones looking to take good pictures. Almost everyone uses their camera phone to capture moments throughout their day, which they usually post on social media. If you’re outside of the “photography world”, you may not the lingo. Aperture, for example, is one of the most important tools in photography, making it an important camera phone feature on your hunt for the latest budget phone (we’ll also share how to slash your phone bill and how this is possible with Q Link Wireless). Aperture describes the opening of a lens that allows light to pass through. This impacts depth of field.

For example, if the camera can be set to a large aperture, it will have less depth of field, meaning the background becomes blurry, while the foreground  (main subject) will be clearer. Large aperture is ideal for portrait photography. Whereas small apertures are better for landscape photography, as it allows the photographer to capture a large depth of field. There are many benefits of small aperture, but the bigger the aperture hole, the more light that passes through. This tends to produce higher quality images.

    High Dynamic Range (HDR)

If photography isn’t your passion and you merely want to take good pictures for your friends, family, or to post on social media, then you’re probably familiar with the HDR mode on your camera phone. How does this feature help you take better pictures?  It can add highlight where needed, brighten shadows, and create vivid, more realistic color to your pictures. This mode will take multiple shots to create the perfect picture, so when you see a breathtaking image in reality, you’ll be able to capture it with your phone. However, for some users, HDR is synonymous with oversaturated, unrealistic images. This is because HDR doesn’t work for every situation. Use it when capturing:

    • Landscapes
    • Photos in direct sunlight
    • Shaded objects

    Autofocus

For sharp photos, you will need a camera that offers the autofocus feature. Most phones have this feature on the rear-facing camera. Different phones have more sophisticated autofocus technology, the majority of which come with a high price tag. For example, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Max are perfect examples. However, if you’re an amateur photographer who can only afford budget phones, don’t despair. You can find phones under $500 with improved autofocus technology, such as Samsung Galaxy A52 5G. It will take some research on your part, but you’re sure to find a satisfactory phone within your budget.

    Multiple Rear Cameras

Many phones feature multiple cameras. If you’ve wondered why, the purpose is to create professional photography experiences. Multiple cameras mean new and advanced ways of taking pictures. When you want to capture vast scenery, having multiple rear cameras can widen your field of vision. For sharper close-ups, you may have the option of using optical zoom, which prevents the image quality from worsening when you zoom. Several budget phones offer multiple rear cameras – dual, triple, or quad, so if you want to take your photos to the next level (without paying thousands on a digital camera) this is one of the camera phone features to look for.

    High Resolution Video (4K)

If you take videos as much, if not more, than you take pictures, you will need a camera that captures high resolution videos. If you’re on social media, you know that videos are surpassing photos by leaps and bounds. YouTube has dominated the video sharing realm for almost 20 years, but now users are also turning to TikTok, particularly Gen Z. Therefore, if you want to hop on the video bandwagon, take advantage of the smartphones that offer resolutions similar to professional video cameras. Unfortunately, not many budget phones with 4K video recording exist, so you’ll have to decide if this is a feature you really need.
